Bears & Falcons Biggest Needs by Logan Lepiscopo

NFL Teams Biggest Needs by Draft Order

A brand-new article series! NFL writer Logan Lepiscopo brings a series that will entitle every NFL team’s biggest offseason need heading into free agency and the NFL draft. Each article will consist of two teams going in draft order. This article will be the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. The NFL salary cap was adjusted March 7th to 208.2M so numbers from previous articles have more than likely changed, as well as franchise. If a team has multiple first round picks the team that originally owned that pick will be covered, to avoid repetitiveness and ensure all 32 teams are covered. Every article will continue to have a mock draft done, but now using due to other websites not having some under the radar prospects that tested phenomenally.

Chicago Bears: Offensive Line

  1. With no first-round pick in the draft this year the Chicago Bears are in a bad spot looking to rebuild. The Bears are committed to Justin Fields as their quarterback now, so the need to protect him should and will be a top priority this offseason in free agency and the draft. Though the Bears have just five draft picks this season the positioning of their picks should still allow for quality starters to be selected past the first round. Along with the offensive line Allen Robinson is hitting free agency which calls for the need of a new top wide receiver. Whether the team is comfortable moving forward with Mooney as their number one wide receiver the Bears should look to grab both a top free agent WR and a young WR in this year’s draft. With that being said… let’s get into the Bears 2022 NFL mock draft.

RD-2-Pick 39- OT-Darian Kinnard- Kentucky

RD-3-Pick 71- CB-Tariq Woolen- UTSA

RD-5-Pick 147- WR-Bo Melton- Rutgers

RD-5-Pick 149- IOL-Chasen Hines- LSU

RD-6-Pick 184- LB-Malcolm Rodriguez- Oklahoma St.

Top player hitting free agency: Akiem Hicks

Cap space: $25.69M

Atlanta Falcons: Edge Rusher

  1. The Falcons have a lot of things they can look at to upgrade, but with their current negative cap space it would be hard to bring in top free agency needs. In recent years it has been the Falcons defense that has been its downfall, but in 2021 it was both sides of the ball that contributed to a poor season. Many people think that it is time to move on from Matt Ryan, but I do not think that this is going to be the draft or offseason that the Falcons get that next guy up. Getting to the quarterback was a big problem in 2021, the Falcons ranked last in both sacks and pressures. The interior part of the offensive line is a big need as well given the guards and centers of the Falcons ranked 29th out of 32 teams for pass blocking. Then there is a problem at WR… as I am sure everyone has seen Calvin Ridley has been suspended the entirety of the 2022 NFL season. SO not only will the Falcons be without their star WR, wide receivers two through five on the depth chart are also set to hit free agency (Russell Gage, Tajae Sharpe, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Christian Blake). With all those needs being said… let’s get into this mock draft that the Falcons so desperately need to capitalize on.
