George Karlaftis Scouting Report by J.T.
George Karlaftis
Defensive End
Purdue
6’ 4” 275 pounds
Background
Karlaftis was a 4-star recruit out of West Lafayette HS (IN). Two-time Indiana State shot put champ. Born and raised in Greece until his father had a heart attack when George was 14. His mother would move her family to the United States.
Pros (+)
+ Good active hands, always seems to have an upper hand on offensive lineman
+ Pure Power , drives tackles back
+ First step beats slower lineman play in and play out
Weaknesses (-)
Has problems at times blitzing outside the tackles, better moves to beat tackles inside right now
Not the fastest defensive end in the class, ranks probably in middle for speed
Leverage at times can be off, needs to extend arms more.
Run defense needs to be improved
Overall
George Karlaftis is a little bit behind Thibodeaux and Hutchinson but as the third best defensive end he could still go as high as TOP 10. I see Karlaftis in the 15-25 range.
