It is that time of the week when Draft 412 summarizes the past seven days of worthy news nuggets that you may have missed. Let us catch you up here:


  • The Steelers signed their whole rookie class, after Joey Porter Jr. agreed to his rookie deal.


Joey Porter Jr. was the last of the Steeler rookies to sign his deal in time for the start of training camp at Latrobe.


  • The Pirates signed 20 of 21 draft picks to contracts.


3B Daniel Cuvet out of ESB Academy in Florida was the only draft pick the Pirates did not sign from the 2023 Draft. Cuvet will attend Miami, FL instead of going pro. Below is a list of the signings.


1st round: Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU - $9,200,000

2nd round: Mitch Jebb, SS, Michigan State - $1,650,000

3rd round: Zander Mueth, RHP, Belleville East HS (IL) - $1,790,000

3rd round: Garret Forrester, 3B, Oregon State - $772,500

4th round: Carlson Reed, RHP, West Virginia - $597,500

5th round: Patrick Reilly, RHP, Vanderbilt - $453,100

6th round: Hunter Furtado, LHP, Alabama - $348,900

7th round: Jaden Woods, LHP, Georgia - $271,300

8th round: Austin Strickland, RHP, Kentucky - $197,500

9th round: Danny Carrion, RHP, UC Davis - $157,500

10th round: Landon Tomkins, RHP, Louisiana Tech - $15,000

  • The Pirates release IF-Drew Maggi


Drew Maggi made his Major League debut on April 26th after 1,154 minor league games and finished his time with the big team with 2 hits in 6 at bats before being optioned back to AA Altoona. Maggi was hitting .181 at the time of his release from the Curve.


  • Jack Suwinski is the fastest to 40 home runs in Pittsburgh Pirates history.

After hitting a homerun in San Diego this past Monday night, Suwinski is now the fastest Pirates player to hit 40 homers in his career. Suwinski hit his 40th homerun on his 595th at bat.


  • John Ross, former Cincinnati Bengal, NFL combine legend retired


John Ross will be remembered most for running the fastest time in the 40-yard-dash (4.22) at the NFL combine, launching himself into the top half of the first round of the 2017 Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Ross 9th overall due to his combine performance


Ross suffered several injuries and never translated his speed to NFL level production. In only 37 games, Ross finished his career with 62 receptions for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns.
