The Pittsburgh Pirates own the #1 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, which is scheduled for July 9th-July 11th in Seattle, WA. This draft could be the final piece of GM Ben Cherington’s puzzle to catapult the Bucs into a yearly contender.
In the next few weeks, Draft 412 will showcase the top prospects coming out in 2023.
Name- Aidan Miller
Pos-3B B-R T-R
Team- Mitchell High School (FL)
HT/WT- 6’2” 205 lbs.
Born- 6/9/2004
Home – Trinity, FL
Besides the obvious big 2 prep hitters, Max Clark and Walker Jenkins, most scouts have Aidan Miller as the next big prep hitter on the board. Miller started his high school career playing shortstop, but as he has grown, he's added muscle and has been moved to the hot corner. Miller has lettered all 4 seasons at Mitchell High School and in 7 games as a freshman, Miller hit .286 with 1 home run in 28 at-bats.
Miller hit over .400 in his sophomore and junior seasons and showed power and gap power. He was named to the U-18 USA National team in 2022 and in 9 games he hit .478 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI’s.
Miller has missed most of his senior season with an injury, but his draft stock should not suffer after his Junior and USA baseball seasons.
At the plate, Miller barrels up just about everything he swings at. His raw power for an 18-year-old is going to push him up the draft boards as he does a good job of staying balanced and is able to drive the ball to each field. He walks more than he strikes out, and Miller rarely goes outside the zone chasing pitches.
His running speed is below average, but he still plays an athletic type of third base. With an above average arm, he’s able to handle the hot corner, and he played some right field for Team USA if a team is in a pinch. Sometimes, he has bouts of bad mechanics at the plate, but this will be fixed by hitting coaches before he reaches the next level. When Aidan Miller is on, however, he has such a compact and quick swing, he reminds Draft 412 of David Wright, former third baseman for the New York Mets.
Final Analysis
The third best prep hitter on our board, Aidan Miller should hear his name in round one of the MLB Draft. He’s a nice prospect some team will stash away and develop in a farm system.
