Pirates' Draft Picks Rounds 11-20

The Pittsburgh Pirates wrapped up their 2023 draft class Tuesday with rounds 11-20, selecting 21 players in total with 14 of those being pitchers.


Here is a quick look at the players the Pirates selected in rounds 11-20:


Round 11- LHP- Magdiel Cotto- Kentucky- 6’4” 250 lbs.


  • Fastball sits between 93-95 mph with ceiling at 97.

  • Slider and changeup are a work in progress.

  • Has a high ceiling for round 11 pick.


Round 12- RHP- Khristian Curtis- Arizona State - 6’5” 210 lbs.


  • Has struggled with injuries through college career.

  • Throws a 4-seamer and a 2-seamer both with good sink action.

  • Has spent limited time on the mound in his career–injuries and was a 2-sport star in high school.


Round 13- 2B- Charles McAdoo- San Jose State - 6’2” 210 lbs.


  • First team All-Mountain West in 2022 & 2023.

  • Hit .325 over his three collegiate seasons.

  • More walks than strikeouts.


Round 14- RHP- Garrett McMillan- Alabama- 6’4” 235 lbs.


  • 19th round pick by Twins last year but went back to school.

  • Shoulder injury this spring cost him 6 weeks of the season.

  • 4-2 with a 4.89 ERA this season.

  • Low 90’s fastball, with a 12-to-6 curveball.


Round 15- Catcher- John Lopez- Puerto Rico Baseball Academy 5’8” 170 lbs.


  • Intriguing athlete, ran the 60-yard-dash at 6.67.

  • Grades out defensively; has a pop time of 1.83.

  • Committed to Bethune-Cookman, may go over slot value.


Round 16- Catcher- Justin Miknis- Kent State - 6’0” 195 lbs.


  • Native of Dubois, PA.

  • First team All-Mac.

  • Hit .318 last spring.


Round 17- 3B- Daniel Cuvet- ESB Academy (FL)- 6’4” 225 lbs.


  • Miami, Fla commitment.

  • Good power, but a lot of swing and miss

  • Not the fleetest of foot, may have to move to 1B in future.


Round 18- SS- Kalae Harrison- North Carolina State - 5’11” 188 lbs.


  • Hawaii native–Played first two seasons at Texas A&M.

  • Played SS and 2B.

  • Hit .313 last season.


Round 19-RHP- Tyler Kennedy- Florida SW State College- 6’4” 225 lbs.


  • Started college career at Pitt .

  • Fast ball averaged 94-95, tops out at 97.

  • Control issues.


Round 20- RHP- Peyton Stumbo- Nevada- 6’1” 200 Ibs.


  • Over 6.00 ERA in 2022 & 2023.

  • Low strikeout numbers.

  • Gives up a lot of home runs.
