Welcome to March Madness
By Danny Lewis
Selection Sunday for College Basketball fans is kind of like Christmas morning and the big gift waiting underneath the tree is the bracket reveal at 6:00.
I consider myself a pretty big College Basketball fan that watches many games from all conferences between November and March leading up to Championship Week. However, when it comes to preparing to fill out the bracket for fun, the online bracket challenges or the office bracket pool you can take all that knowledge and preparation and toss it right out the window. March Madness is about as unpredictable as it comes.
A few intriguing storylines:
Is this finally the year for #1 Gonzaga after coming so close last year?
Does the youth at Duke have 6 Games in them to send Coach K into retirement as a Champion?
Can Baylor repeat as National Champion?
Does a Dayton play in game winner make a run? Rutgers, Notre Dame, Wyoming or Indiana
Who wins the loaded south region? Seeds 1 thru 5 feature 4 conference champions
Is the Big 10 once again overrated? They do have 9 teams in the field of 68.
Who is this year’s Cinderella? Virginia Tech, Murray State, South Dakota State, Chattanooga?
Does Sister Jean and Loyola-Chicago have any March magic left in the tank?
Well after pondering all these questions and a good night sleep, I filled out my bracket.
West Region – I’m Picking Gonzaga over Duke. They met back in November and Duke pulled off a close win, but this time I’m Picking the more Experienced team to get the W. Dark Horse – Texas Tech, they can play multiple styles and Swept Baylor this Season.
East Region – I’m Picking Kentucky over UCLA. Coach Cal has a Team that seems built for March led by Big Man Oscar Tshiebwe and Guard TyTy Washington. UCLA was a Final 4 team last year but teams should be prepared for them this time around. Dark Horse – Purdue, they are a Big Team who is deep with a 9 man Rotation.
South Region – I’m Picking Arizona over Tennessee. Arizona is Back, but playing in the PAC 12 they played lots of Late Games so they quietly flew under the Radar to a 30+ win Season. They met Tennessee back in December and lost by 4. Both teams have improved since then but I’m going with the Cats. Dark Horse – UAB, they have slayed a few Dragons in the past and have a shot against First Round opponent Houston. If anything, keep an eye on Jordan “Jelly” Walker and enjoy the Show he should put on.
Midwest Region – I’m Picking Auburn over Kansas. Auburn is a team that hung in the Top 10 all season and won the SEC Regular Season Championship and have a Nice Rotation. Bruce Pearl is also one of my Favorite Coaches in the Country. Dark Horse – IOWA, Fresh off a Big 10 Championship they are definitely capable of playing with anyone. But the Question Remains is the Big 10 Overrated!!!
Final 4 Picks:
Gonzaga over Kentucky
Arizona over Auburn
And your 2022 Men’s National Champions – The GONZAGA BULLDOGS finally get Mark Few that National Championship.
Enjoy March Madness and Best of Luck on your Brackets…….
