Continuing to add to the Penguins' forward core, Kyle Dubas has signed LW-Andreas Johnsson to a one-year $800k contract. Johnsson most recently played for the San Jose Sharks, playing 13 games this past season and tallying 3 assists. He is the second former player Kyle Dubas has signed this offseason (Noel Acciari being the first) from his days in Toronto.

Johnsson has playmaking abilities and the skating ability to go along with a scoring touch. He is a smart player who sees the ice well, and it would better serve the Penguins to play on an offensive line where his skills can shine.

On the downside, Johnsson is not a physical player and won’t help the Pens much on the bottom six. He could fit nicely on the 3rd line as a left wing, or fill in somewhere on the top two lines when the Pens lose a player to injury.

For a one-year deal at $800k, Kyle Dubas continues to add talent and depth at a minimal cost.
