Welcome to Steel Town- Steelers Sign 17 to Reserve/Future Contracts

After their 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard game, the Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time, signing 17 players to reserve/future contracts. Many of these players played on the 2023 Steelers' practice squad. Here is the full list of players signed:


Cornerback- Luq Barcoo


Barcoo was signed by the Steelers this past offseason to a one-year contract and added to the practice squad at the beginning of the 2023 campaign. He was undrafted out of San Diego State and signed with Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent. He has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Before signing with the Steelers, Barcoo played in the XFL with the San Antonio Brahmas. 


Offensive Guard- Tyler Beach


Beach played collegiately at Wisconsin for 57 games over 5 seasons. He went undrafted in 2023 but signed with the Houston Texans after the draft. He has played both guard and tackle throughout his football career and could add some depth on the offensive line. He is 6’6” and 290 lbs. and needs to continue to add bulk to be a reliable offensive lineman in the league.


Wide Receiver- Marquez Callaway


Callaway went undrafted in 2020 out of Tennessee University. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He led the Saints in receiving yards (698) and touchdowns (6) and also set a career high in receptions with (43) in 2021. In 2022, he had 16 receptions in 14 games. He only played 3 games and had no receptions in 2023.


Fullback- Jack Colletto


Colletto went undrafted in 2023 and signed with the San Francisco 49ers shortly after the draft. The versatile Colletto, out of Oregon State, played 43 games a the NCAA level at quarterback and linebacker early in his collegiate career. He eventually moved to fullback and won the Hornung Award as a senior and was an All-Pac-12 second team selection. 


Offensive Tackle- Kellen Diesch


Diesch was signed to the Steelers' practice squad ahead of their 2023 week 1 game. He played college football at Texas A&M before transferring to Arizona State. Many pundits had Diesch getting selected in the mid-late rounds. After he went undrafted, he signed with the Miami Dolphins and after one season, was released and signed with the Chicago Bears for the 2022 season. 


Safety- Jalen Elliott


Jalen Elliott went undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2020 after totaling 173 tackles and 6 interceptions. He was signed by the Detroit Lions and spent his rookie season on their practice squad, where he was elevated to the active roster and started 2 games. He has also spent time on the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders.


Offensive Guard- Joey Fisher


Fisher started 3 seasons at Shepherd University where he was named First Team All-American and All-PSAC First Team selection. He was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers after the NFL Draft. He was released late in training camp and signed with the Steelers early in the season and was later released. 


Wide Receiver- Dez Fitzpatrick


Fitzpatrick was a 4th round draft pick out of Louisville in 2021 by the Tennessee Titans. Between 2021-2022, he played in 5 games and had 5 receptions for 49 yards. Fitzpatrick began the season on the practice squad but was added to the 53-man roster on Sept. 14. He was released from the active roster on October 2 and signed back to the Steelers' practice squad on October 4. 


Offensive Tackle- Devery Hamilton


Hamilton played guard and tackle at Stanford University before transferring to Duke for his senior season. The Raiders signed Hamilton following the 2021 NFL Draft and spent part of the season on their practice squad. He signed with the New York Giants in 2022, seeing some limited action. 


Offensive Tackle- Anderson Hardy


Hardy graduated from Appalachian State after playing 44 games with 29 starts. He originally signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2023 draft. 


Wide Receiver- Keilahn Harris


Harris played collegiate football at Oklahoma Baptist where he played 34 games. He finished his college career with 196 catches for 2,510 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was also a kick returner with big play ability. Harris signed with the Atlanta Falcons after going undrafted in 2023.


Defensive Lineman- Jonathan Marshall


Jonathan Marshall was drafted by the New York Jets in the 6th round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Arkansas. He played in 4 games with the Jets, recording 2 tackles. He was signed by the Steelers at the end of 2022 off the Jets' practice squad. 


Center- Ryan McCollum 


McCollum played college football at Texas A&M and went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Houston Texans, then went on to the Detroit Lions before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. 


Wide Receiver- Denzel Mims


Mims was a 2nd round draft pick out of Baylor by the New York Jets in 2020. He had a productive rookie season for the Jets, hauling in 23 passes for 357 yards in 9 games. But over the next two seasons, Mims played in 21 games and only caught 19 passes for 319 yards. Mims signed with the Steelers in October of 2023 and was placed on their practice squad. 


Running Back- Aaron Shampklin


Shampklin played at Harvard where he was a two-time All-Ivy league selection. He was undrafted and has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys' practice squads.


Defensive Lineman- Jacob Slade


Slade played college football at Michigan State where he recorded 88 tackles, 11.5 TFL, and 4 sacks. He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft but was signed shortly after by the Arizona Cardinals.


Wide Receiver- Duece Watts


Watts played college football at Tulane where he played 38 games, starting 29 of them. The Green Bay Packers signed him to their practice squad after going undrafted in 2023. He also spent some time later in the 2023 season on the Steelers' practice squad.
